My name is Gavino Carrasco, and I am known to some as Carrasco or Gavin. I was born in Monahans, Texas and was raised in Van Horn, Texas. I am married to Claudia Carrasco, and we have 4 beautiful children and 2 awesome grand babies.  I am running for Gaines County Sheriff with 22 years of law enforcement experience, 11 of those years here in Seminole, with the Seminole Police Department. I started my career in law enforcement as a jailer-dispatcher in 2003 with the Culberson County Sheriff’s Office. Earning my jailer's license in 2004 through El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. I later received my Peace Officer license from the Sul Ross State University Law Enforcement Academy in 2005. During my career, I have served as a Deputy, Police Officer, K-9 Handler, Patrol Sergeant, Detective, and Interim Chief of Police. I attended Leadership Command College in 2025, completing 1 out of 3 modules. I have my Basic TCOLE instructor, Standardized Field Sobriety instructor, Pepper ball instructor/Armorer, AR-15 Armorer, Glock Armorer, and an ALEERT instructor. For the last 4 years, I have taught at the Seminole High School, teaching Principals of Law Enforcement and Public Safety. I started the SkillsUSA Law Enforcement Chapter with the school district. Winning the Law Enforcement district contest, state contest, and making it to the national contest twice. Placing 5th and 11th at nationals. I am also serving on the Board of Director for SkillsUSA Texas. Being involved with the community is my passion. By teaching at the high school, I hope to influence our youth to seek a career in law enforcement.
